The Truth The Town Avoids

Under Charlotte Kent's Stewardship...

...Flora, Fauna, & Wildlife Thrived

"Asked why she wants to sell the land to the town for much less than she could get from developers, Miss Kent replied, 'Because I do not want it developed. It has always been open county since my family has kept if and I do not want it to be developed into small pieces. I want it as open space for animals and flowers and other growing things. I think there is very little of that left in Orleans.'
"Miss Charlotte Kent, in The Cape Cod Times, 20 October 1988."
(she died in 1998) at age 100. The town let the dogs in within days, and threw out the 1995 Kent's Point Management Plan negotiated with the neighbors.

FROM:

Town of Orleans Conservation Commission

Appendix F – Adopted September 12, 1989
(from the discarded 1995 Kent’s Point Land Management Plan (KPMP)

2.) PROTECTING WHAT IS THERE: “No person shall deface, remove, alter or destroy or otherwise damage, in any manner whatsoever, any terrain feature, any structure, archiological find, rock, plant, flower, fruit, shrub, vine or tree or any other form of vegetation nor shall any birds or animals be molested or their nests or dens be disturbed at any time.

4.) PROHIBITED: “…unrestrained dogs…”

Since ConsCom threw out the 1995 KPMP, (except for a single prohibition of "unrestrained dogs" which they totally ignore) there is not a single reference to dogs in the "new" 2002 KPMP.

How About Some Truth?

Using a Cape Cod Commission Counter

Cars to Kents Point in 4 Months in 2014

Starting May 23rd - Ending September 21st

Based on average daily traffic of 126.51 cars/day into Kent's Point, measured by a Cape Cod Commission traffic counter, between May 23rd and September 21st of 2014 when the dog park was just getting known locally and Cape-wide and...

...Recognizing that the dog park is open 7 days/week, 365 days/year, it can be calculated with a certain degree of accuracy that, between May 23, 2014 and December 31, 2023, (9.61 years) 437,471.58 cars entered and left Kent's Point.

But, lets be kind, and figure that only 10% of the cars brought dogs with them.(you know it's closer to 50% or more)

Well, let's save you from counting on your fingers, or getting out the old abacus. In round figures, that would be 43,747.15 dogs over a 9.61 year period.

(if it was 50%, it would be closer to 218,735.79)

More Truth The Town Avoids

Under the Town's Stewardship...

...No More Wildlife on Kent's Point

Ever See A Dog Owner Hold A "Mutt Mitt" Under A Dog To Catch Urine?

OF COURSE NOT...
...but the Town claims that NO DEPOSITS ARE LEFT THERE, so there can be no adverse effects on the wildlife or the soil chemistry.

Think about thousands of dogs peeing annually, for decades. No Adverse Effects???

From Wicked Local Newspaper – January 18, 2015
byline - Doreen Leggett

“Conservation commission chairman Judith Bruce said commissioners have received a “deluge” of comments already, but are looking forward to the public hearing to hear from more concerned residents during a meeting that is virtually entirely set aside for Kent’s Point. The agenda includes items that range from fire prevention, to access, to history, to dogs.

“People have very strong feelings about this,” Bruce said.

She added, commissioners often have to WEIGH GETTING PEOPLE OUT TO ENJOY USING PUBLIC LANDS AGAINST ...THAT THEIR CHARACTER IS CHANGED.(note: ie, all wildlife is gone.)

“Our conservation areas are not wildlife refuges*, they are meant to be enjoyed by our citizenry. It’s a balance,” she said.”

*note: Clearly the Conservation Commission Chair is unconcerned about conservation and preservation rules, laws, & bylaws regulating the Conservation Commission's legal management requirements of the largest, most unique property under her jurisdiction.

FYI - Given that the PH range of dog urine is 1.016–1.060 and the average urine output is 60 ml/day (20-100) AND that the average PH of drinking water is 6.5 - 8.5, How much urine do you suppose has been deposited there in a 10 year± period? Do you think it affects water quality?

Wildlife cannot exist without drinkable water! THEY LEAVE!

Have you EVER seen a dog pee into a "Mutt Mitt"?
